It’s heart-wrenching to hear about Billy’s initial condition and the skepticism he faced on social media. But it’s inspiring to know that Valia Orfanidou and other rescuers were able to see beyond his initial appearance and give him the chance to live a happy and healthy life.

Billy’s story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of animals and the incredible difference that compassionate individuals can make in their lives. I’m glad to hear that Billy chose to fight for his life and has now found a loving forever home.

Many people were skeptical when this black dog’s photo initially surfaced on social media. People thought Billy, the dog, was a fake because he was so gaunt and sickly.

Valia Orfanidou, a dog rescuer, was emotionally moved when she first saw Billy’s portrait on a Facebook post. It looked like something out of a horror movie.

“If you’re involved in Animal Welfare in Greece you see too much suffering every day, but that photo really broke my heart,” she said. “I had no idea what I was in for when I said ‘get him here and I’ll foster him’.

Billy was picked up by two volunteers and taken to the vet the same day. “When we took him out of his box the sight of his suffering body and his absolute terror were so petrifying that we couldn’t even cry.

We were pretty sure that we had taken him off the streets just to offer him the chance of a dignified death and that the vet would advise that we put him to sleep. But he didn’t. He examined him, took blood samples and send us home.”

Billy then made a spectacular recovery. He has regained his original weight. He likes to play with other dogs in the house. And today, he still lives happily with his family.
