There are a lot of dogs out there that aren’t treated like others. Many of us love to see fluffy, cute and healthy puppies but turn away when we see an old or sick one. That’s why today we have this heartwarming story for you that is bound to change your mind.
Nobody wanted Tofu, a 14-year-old dog. Good Samaritans rescued him from an abusive household, and he spent ten years living in a shelter. The poor dog had cancer, so he had to get his back leg amputated. He also became blind from old age.
The dog probably spent the rest of his life in a shelter, but fortunately, Danila came into his life.
“One fine day I woke up and called the coordinator of a shelter who was my friend, Carol, and asked which was the oldest dog that would be up for adoption. Immediately she sent me the photo of Tofu. Who was 14 years old, blind, and had recently amputated a paw because of cancer,” Danila said.
Danila has always dreamed of adopting a disabled, old and deaf dog. Not necessarily all these problems in one dog. After seeing a photo of Tofu and hearing his story, Danila immediately realized that she must have him in her life.
Danila already has five dogs, but after a long and serious discussion with her husband, they decided to give Tofu his forever home.
“When I saw the photograph and learned its story, I couldn’t get Tofu out of my head. I spent the whole day thinking about it. It was inexplicable! I talked to my husband about the possibility of adopting him, as I have 5 more dogs at home,” Danila added.
After deciding to adopt Tofu, Danila had to wait a month for him to get all the surgeries he needed and to recover from them. While Danila was waiting, Tofu was already provided a collar, clothes, doghouse, and toys.
Tofu adapted well to his home. He is a happy and loved home dog now that has an amazing family.
It’s heartbreaking to hear about a dog spending so many years in a shelter due to its disabilities. It’s a reminder of the many challenges that older dogs and those with disabilities face in finding new homes.
However, it’s important to recognize the dedication and commitment of the shelter staff who cared for this dog for so many years. They provided the necessary medical attention and care to ensure that the dog had a good quality of life despite its disabilities.
It’s also heartening to know that there are people who are willing to adopt dogs with disabilities and give them a loving home. It takes a special kind of person to provide the extra care and attention that these dogs require, but the rewards of doing so can be immeasurable.
Stories like this remind us of the importance of adopting older dogs and those with disabilities. These dogs often have a lot of love to give and can make wonderful companions for those willing to provide the extra care they need.
