The cook at Bristol’s The Old Lock & Weir saw an intriguing customer at the kitchen door last Sunday.

The attention of workers and customers out for an early pint was drawn to an inquisitive seal pup wandering about the riverfront building.

The general manager of The Old Lock & Weir, Dan Rawlins, told The Dodo, “I was pleasantly delighted to meet him.” “He seemed unconcerned about all the people surrounding him, and he moved around a lot.”

Rawlins believed the seal had arrived at their door because of the high water the night before. He may perhaps have been seeking for something to eat. “He was definitely attracted to the pub kitchen because he was underweight,” Rawlins added. “It’s possible he was hungry,” says the narrator.

While waiting for aid, staff kept the seal pup comfortable by containing him with pallets and draped moist towels over him. The seal was securely collected by British Divers Marine Life Rescue Service and sent to RSPCA West Hatch for treatment.

Rescuers determined that the seal had traveled 300 miles from Scotland to the pub’s door by scanning his tag. But all of the swimming was worth it since the small pup found the right people to treat him and will be able to return to the water once he’s recovered.

He was unable to remain for fish and chips, though.
